# What persists

> See what stays on your computer when you leave the terminal or close the browser.

Your computer stays running until you delete it. Closing a browser tab or leaving a terminal keeps its disk and identity in place.

## Writable disk

The complete writable disk persists. This includes code, installed packages, databases, configuration, and local state.

## Identity

The computer keeps its name, `name.cool.computer` address, and `name@mail.cool.computer` inbox.

## Configured service

The configured service keeps running after you disconnect. Requests to the public address reach its exposed HTTP port. If the process exits, inspect its logs and restart it with `cool service restart bakery`.

## Deletion

Deleting a computer removes its identity and stored data. Back up files you need before deleting it. Read the current [privacy policy](https://www.cool.computer/privacy) for the published deletion and retention terms.
