The cool command is a native binary. It does not need Node.js or Python.

Install

Then run cool by itself. It opens the account shell, where you sign in, or sign up, and publish. To sign in from a script, run cool login --email owner@example.com, or cool signup --email owner@example.com for a new account. Agents must ask the owner before sending the email. Without an account, cool publish still works: the site is public, and it is deleted after 24 hours unless you claim it. See Use the CLI for every command.

Check it works

It lists your sites and computers. Run cool whoami to see which account is signed in.

Agent instructions

The standalone installer, and standalone updates, write a short versioned block that tells your local coding agents to use cool. It goes into the user-level instruction file of each agent whose configuration directory exists:
  • Claude Code: ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md
  • Codex: ~/.codex/AGENTS.md
  • Pi: ~/.pi/agent/AGENTS.md
  • OpenCode: ~/.config/opencode/AGENTS.md
It also writes the cool-computers skill, which sends the agent to cool skill for the full guide: ~/.claude/skills/cool-computers/SKILL.md for Claude Code, and ~/.agents/skills/cool-computers/SKILL.md for Codex, Pi and OpenCode. A cool-computers skill it did not write, such as one installed from skills.sh, stays as it is. For Pi it also writes the extension ~/.pi/agent/extensions/cool-computers.ts, which Pi describes. The block starts with ## Cool Computers CLI - cool - v<date> and ends with the line <!-- end: Cool Computers CLI -->. A newer version replaces it in place, and everything outside it stays as it was. Homebrew leaves agent instruction files and skills unchanged. To add or refresh them yourself:

Update

For Homebrew installations:
cool update also directs Homebrew installations to this command. For standalone installations, run the updater:
Press Enter at the [Y/n] prompt to install the update. For scripts, use cool update --yes; cool update --check checks without installing. The updater verifies the official versioned installer before it runs it. On Windows, it stages the new executable first, then replaces cool.exe as soon as the old CLI process exits. You can also run the installer again.

Remove

Run cool agents remove first to remove the agent instructions, the skill and the Pi extension. For Homebrew installations:
For standalone installations:
